Hey, it's WET out there!

Today's forecast - rain. In fact, it's been raining non-stop for the past five days. President Al told us if we didn't want to come today, he understood and nobody would hold it against us. I took him at his word.
Happy holidays to all...and to all, a good night.

Abraxas Student of the Month - December 2010

As part of its ongoing partnership with Abraxas High School, the Rancho Bernardo Sunrise Rotary Club announced their Student Of The Month award for December 2010.

The presentation to Lorraine Liwanag was made by teacher Bob Lutticken and Rotarian Joseph Giamanco.

“Loraine hasn’t missed a day of school in a year and a half,” reported Mr. Lutticken, while also noting “she helps everybody and anybody both on and off the field.” Thanking the RB Sunrise Rotary for their ongoing support, he stated, “We have so many people in college because of you.”

Given the expanding programs at Abraxas and their success at cutting their dropout rate by fifty percent, it’s quite apparent they’re doing something right over there.

Loraine was treated as a VIP by the 65 professional members of the RB Sunrise Rotary Club. She was given a gift certificate and an award in honor of her achievement.

Maximizing meeting time

My good friend (and club finemaster) Jim Roth checks his email for the 47th time before having someone in the room who wasn't paying attention spin the wheel and pay a fine. Jim is the one on the right.

Toys for Tots

Sue Herndon is joined by the Marines from the Marine Corps Air Station - Miramar for the annual Toys for Tots collection. The Rancho Bernardo Sunrise Rotary clubs 65 professional members contributed $2,000 in toys for area children in need. Thanks for organizing this effort, Sue - nicely done!

Caring for those most in need

At this week's meeting we heard from Beth Gillig - a member of our club and head of US operations for Oasis Haven. The group has taken it upon themselves to place and care for abandoned and HIV positive children in Africa.

Having a martini for breakfast

Alan Underkoffler from Square Martini Media came in to tell us how to make the most of LinkedIn in our marketing efforts. He shared this link with loads of useful information.
I've already started overhauling my LinkedIn profile. Lots of good stuff.

SURPRISE!

Note just received from club president Al Watson.

I am the only one registered for my demotion party.
Feelings really hurt
Fearless Leader

I wonder if he realizes he's supposed to continue on as our president until June 30th...

Armed Services YMCA

Meet George Brown - CEO of the Armed Services YMCA of Camp Pendleton, CA.
George visited our club yesterday morning to tell us about Project Liberty Call, Concrete Beach, Operation Hero and the ASYMCA Preschool Programs. "The Armed Services YMCA's sol mission is to serve Camp Pendleton's active duty and their family members." he said, adding "There are many programs and services in place to achieve this goal, and witht he ever-changing needs of this region's service members, the ASYMCA must stand ready to respond to those needs as well."

George then talked about the Ball Gown giveaway and the annual Mud Run, and I couldn't help but wonder if they are both held on the same day...
